The experience
Off southern Corsica, just before Sardinia, the Lavezzi Archipelago lines up about a hundred granite islets in translucent water. One of the best snorkeling spots in the Mediterranean, in a fully preserved setting.
The place
A nature reserve since 1982, the archipelago hosts endemic flora and exceptionally clear seabeds. The pale-sand beaches, fringed with rocks polished by the sea, welcome seabirds and a few mindful swimmers.
How the day unfolds
- Departure from Bonifacio (30-minute crossing).
- Anchorage in the best-sheltered cove, depending on the day's wind.
- Snorkeling in the posidonia meadows and around the rocks.
- Lunch on board or a picnic on one of the few authorised beaches.
- Free swimming, exploration of the islets by tender, relaxation on deck.
- Return at the end of the afternoon to Bonifacio, or onward to Sardinia.
What you take home
The memory of a day of water and light, in a site the map does not do justice. The impression of having touched a still-intact Mediterranean.
